If you haven’t heard, the CrossFit season will be changing up a bit this year by moving to the fall. We are excited to announce we will once again be creating a friendly in-house competition with The 3rd WCFM Intramural Open! Last year was a blast watching all four teams duke it out over 5 weeks and push themselves out of their comfort zones to win points for their teams! We have MANY new faces again this year and it’s going to be an amazing event that EVERYONE can participate in. One major change this year to the WCFM Intramural Open is that the scoring and to a certain extent, programming is going to be done in house by your WCFM coaches. By bringing these things in house it will allow us to have control over team scores, scaling options, and provide a better experience to all fitness levels. In years past we were limited to the CrossFit Games leaderboard, deadlines, and movement standards. This will also mean you will not be required to sign up for the Open through the Games website.
What’s The Open?
If you’re unfamiliar with the CrossFit Open, it’s CrossFit’s largest annual online competition with nearly 400,000 people registered from around the world! Every Thursday evening for 5 weeks, one workout is released and will need to be completed by the following Monday. For elite athletes this 5 week competition is the first qualifying event for the CrossFit Games. For most of us, the Open is a time to see how we’ve improved our fitness in the past year and push outside our comfort zones. This year, we go into battle each Friday with our teams as we compete in our version, The Warrior CrossFit Muscatine Intramural Open.
For five consecutive weeks on Friday, we will host The WCFM Intramural Open in a team competition format. The event will be run during normal class times throughout the day on Fridays, however the real energy will happen Friday evenings. If you can’t make the Friday evening events, no problem just perform the WOD during your normal class time. Athletes will represent one of four teams. ANYONE with ANY experience level (1 week to 10 years) who wishes to have fun with this event is welcome!
Scoring this year will be a little different from years past. While the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female athletes will still earn 3, 2, and 1 points. Our goal is to make the scoring a true team effort! Expect to see things like total team reps and total team time along with weekly bonus point challenges!

Is this for me?/ Getting Signed up
Every year, athletes get nervous or are uncertain about participating in The Open. Don’t be. The Open is an amazing experience. No need to worry about movements or weights outside of your ability, your WCFM coaches have that handled with scaled options and alternative movements that will still get you a great work out, earn points for your team, and get a big push from your WCFM community!
Here is how the sign up process works. Use the “Register Now” button at the top or bottom of the screen to get registered for this 5 week event. The cost is $25 ($5 per week). Once you have registered, your name will go onto a list of “eligible athletes” for team captains to recruit. This year’s team captains are…. Dan Marine, Dustin Plemmons, Ashley Sink, and Sam Wheeler!
The only commitment you have to your team is to workout every Friday during any class time for 5 weeks! If you are unable to make the Friday workout and still want to participate in that weeks event, you’ll need to schedule it with a coach sometime between 7:00pm Thursday evening and 7:30 Monday evening. Saturday morning classes will change up a bit during the open. On Saturdays we will have our normal 9:00am class and then an open gym afterwards for anyone who needs to complete their open workout from that week. All workouts contributing to this event must be judged!
